The set of City Keys to the city of Amsterdam made by Bonebakker in 1806 is a ‘signature piece’ for the oldest jewelry house in the Netherlands. In the 19th century, this set, consisting of a day and a night key, was presented to both Napoleon and King William I, the first king of the Netherlands.
The day and night concept is translated into a collection of fine gemstone jewellery by using very rare, natural gemstones that have a very special colour-changing property.
We invite you to come and be amazed by these jewels in our Salon.
Some of these gemstones, including Alexandrite, Zaltanite, Garnet and Sapphire, have a very special changeant effect, causing them to change colour depending on the light. Others are just rare finds that are magnificent in colour.
In daylight, the changeant gemstones reflect a certain hue, whereas at night, by candlelight or artificial light, the stones appear to change their colour. Given the rarity of the gemstones, many of the jewels can be described as unique pieces.
Various elements in the jewellery pieces refer to or stem directly from the design for the historical keys of Amsterdam. There are pendants in which the entire key is displayed, as well as jewellery, such as stud earrings and rings, in which only the head of the key is used as the core design.
